Once upon a time, at the Naishiranya Tirtha, 88,000 sages, including Shaunika and others, asked Shri Sutaji, "O Lord! How can people without knowledge of the Vedas attain devotion to God in this Kaliyuga? And how will they attain salvation? O best of sages! Please tell us about a penance that can bring virtue and the desired results in a short time."
We desire to hear this kind of story. Sutaji, well-versed in all scriptures, said: "O revered among Vaishnavas! You have all asked about the welfare of living beings, so I will tell you about a great fast that Naradaji had asked Lakshminarayanji, and Lakshmipati had told the great sage Naradaji. Listen carefully."
Once upon a time, Yogiraj Naradaji, seeking the welfare of others, wandered through many worlds and arrived on the mortal world. Here, he saw almost all human beings born in various species suffering from numerous sufferings due to their actions. Seeing their suffering, Narada began to contemplate what efforts could be made to ensure the end of human suffering. Contemplating this thought, he went to Vishnuloka. There, he began to praise Lord Narayana, the Lord of the Gods, who held a conch, a discus, a mace, and a lotus in his hands, and wore a garland around his neck.
While praising, Narada said, "O Lord! You are endowed with immense power; even mind and speech cannot reach you. You have no beginning, no middle, or an end. Your formless nature, through creation, removes the suffering of your devotees. I salute you." Hearing Narada's praise, Lord Vishnu said, "O great sage! What is on your mind? What purpose have you come here for? Please tell me without hesitation."
On this, Narada Muni said that humans born in various species in the mortal world are suffering from numerous sufferings due to their actions. O Lord! If you have mercy on me, please tell me how humans can get rid of their suffering with just a little effort.
Shri Hari said, "O Narada! You have asked a very important question for the welfare of mankind. I am telling you this, which liberates a person from attachment. Listen. There is a rare and excellent fast in both heaven and earth, which bestows virtue. Today, out of love, I am telling you about it. By observing this fast of Lord Satyanarayan properly, a person immediately enjoys happiness here and attains salvation upon death."
Hearing Shri Hari's words, Narada asked, "What are the benefits of this fast? And what are its rules? Who observed this fast? On which day should this fast be observed? Please explain everything in detail." Hearing Narada's words, Shri Hari said, "This fast, which removes sorrow and grief, brings victory in all realms. Humans should worship Lord Satyanarayan in the evening with devotion and faith, with religious Brahmins and relatives." With devotion, offer naivedya (offerings), bananas, ghee, milk, and a quarter of a kilogram of wheat flour. Instead of wheat, use saathi flour, sugar, and jaggery, and mix all the edible ingredients together to offer it to the Lord.
Feed your relatives and friends, including Brahmins, and then eat yourself. Immerse yourself in devotion to the Lord with bhajans and kirtans. By observing this fast dedicated to Lord Satyanarayan, all one's desires are surely fulfilled. In this Kaliyuga, this is the only simple way to attain salvation in the mortal world.

The second chapter of the Satyanarayan Vrat Katha
O sages! I will tell you the story of the one who observed this fast in ancient times. Listen carefully! In the beautiful city of Kashipuri, there lived a very poor Brahmin. Tormented by hunger and thirst, he wandered the earth.
One day, the Lord, who loves Brahmins, disguised himself as a Brahmin and approached him, asking, "O Brahmin! Why do you wander the earth in constant sorrow?" The poor Brahmin replied, "I am a poor Brahmin. I wander the earth seeking alms. O Lord! If you know of a solution, please tell me." The old Brahmin replied, "Lord Satyanarayan is the granter of all desires, so worship him. By doing so, a person is freed from all suffering."
Disguised as an old Brahmin, Lord Satyanarayan explained the entire ritual of the fast to the poor Brahmin and then disappeared. The Brahmin began to think, "I will definitely observe the fast the old Brahmin has asked me to observe." Having made this decision, he could not sleep that night. He woke up early in the morning, determined to observe the fast of Lord Satyanarayan, and went out to beg. That day, the poor Brahmin received a lot of money in alms. With this, he, along with his relatives, completed the fast of Lord Satyanarayan. After observing the Lord Satyanarayan fast, the poor Brahmin was relieved of all suffering and became blessed with many kinds of wealth.
From that moment on, the Brahmin began observing this fast every month. Anyone who observes this fast will be freed from all sins and attain salvation. Anyone who observes this fast will also be freed from all suffering.
Suta said, "I have thus related to you the Satyanarayan fast as told by Lord Narayana to Narada. O Brahmins! What more can I say?" The sage said, "O sages! Having heard from that Brahmin, we all want to hear who else in the world has observed this fast. We have a feeling of reverence for it."
Suta said, "O sages! All those who have observed this fast, listen! Once, that Brahmin, according to his wealth and prosperity, agreed to observe this fast with his relatives." At the same time, an old wood seller
